Nestlé / FMCG Case Study
Shaping Nestle's Gen Z Communication Strategy.
The Brief & Challenge
Traditional Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) giants face unprecedented challenges in engaging China's highly fragmented Gen Z audience. Nestlé needed a strategic approach to soften its corporate image and build a more intimate, conversational relationship with younger consumers. They approached LEAP Strategy to design an innovative, youth-centric communication strategy that humanizes the brand and breaks through the clutter of traditional product marketing.

"We didn't just redesign a logo; we gave the brand a heartbeat to talk directly with a new generation."
The Strategic Approach
Enter "Birdie": The Brand Companion
We looked at Nestlé's most recognizable asset—its iconic bird's nest logo—and brought the little bird to life. Thus, the anthropomorphic IP "Birdie" was born. This wasn't a radical departure, but a clever evolution. By giving the bird a relatable personality, a distinct voice, and human-like emotions, we transformed a static corporate mark into an active, friendly brand companion.
Using this character, we completely shifted the brand's tone of voice across the digital matrix. Implementing the KFS (KOL, Feeds, Search) methodology on platforms like Xiaohongshu, "Birdie" engaged in genuine, playful conversations rather than corporate broadcasting. This allowed Nestlé to seamlessly integrate into Gen Z's daily lives, significantly lowering their psychological barrier to branded content.
